COIMBRA
An ancient city first named Aeminium by the time the Romans occupied the Iberian Peninsula . Coimbra represents many centuries of history, culture and tradition. Its history may be found in many documents, some real monuments to art in a distant era; its culture in its old university (founded in 1290); its tradition in its students life, always present in their song: the Coimbra 's "FADO". In spite of the number of inhabitants, 200 000, its area is superior to identical european cities with the same population, considering green areas and the common Residential quarters. The city's university on top of a hill and all the surrounding area until the river is the oldest part of town existing since the Middle Ages. Coimbra is unique and unforgettable for those who spend part of their lives in it.
